This update introduces Label Purchase Optimization, allowing merchants to skip the Handover and/or Summary steps when purchasing shipping labels.
When configured, label generation can be reduced from multiple screens and clicks to a one-click experience, while still giving users full control to edit options when needed.
In this article:
Why we built this
Previously, generating a shipping label required moving through multiple mandatory steps:
- Selecting handover options for every shipment
- Reviewing a summary page
- Confirming purchase
This resulted in multiple clicks per label, even for merchants with standardized workflows.
With Label Purchase Optimization, merchants can now:
- Automate handover selection
- Skip the handover step entirely
- Skip the summary page
- Generate labels in as little as one click (where applicable)
What’s new
1. Label Purchase Optimization settings
A new settings section allows you to control how labels are purchased.
You can configure:
- Whether the Handover step is shown or skipped
- Whether the Summary step is shown or skipped
- Whether handover methods are auto-selected or require manual input
- The priority order for handover methods
2. Auto‑select handover method
When auto‑select is enabled, Easyship automatically selects a handover method based on your preferred priority order:
Example priorities:
- Pickup
- Drop‑off
- Direct handover
You can reorder these priorities by dragging and saving your preferences.
If the first option isn’t available for a courier or location, the system automatically falls back to the next option.
3. Skip the Handover step
If you don’t want to see the Handover screen at all:
- Set Handover step = No
- Enable Auto‑select
The system will apply your predefined priority automatically and move you directly to the next step.
Even when skipped, you can still:
- Click Edit handover options from the next screen
- Change pickup or drop‑off if needed
4. Skip the Summary step
You can also skip the Summary page entirely.
When disabled:
- The Confirm button changes to Get Label
- Clicking it immediately purchases and generates the label
This is ideal for users who don’t need to review costs every time.
5. One‑click label generation
When both Handover and Summary are disabled:
- Labels can be generated in one click
- Costs (including insurance and pickup fees, if applicable) are calculated automatically
- Insurance prompts still appear when relevant
This delivers the fastest possible label purchase flow.
Insurance behavior
- If a shipment is already insured, no insurance prompt is shown
- If a shipment is not insured, the insurance confirmation modal will still appear
- Insurance cost is included in the total label cost
Things To Note
- If no payment method is available, users will be redirected to add one before label purchase
- If label generation fails, the shipment moves to Purchase Label status, where users can edit details and retry
- Bulk shipments follow the same optimization rules as single shipments
FAQs
Can I still edit handover options if the step is skipped?
Yes. Even when the Handover step is skipped, you can click Edit handover options from the next screen to make changes before generating the label.
Will skipping the Summary page hide costs?
No. Costs are still calculated and applied correctly. Skipping the Summary page simply removes the mandatory review step — it does not affect pricing accuracy.
If Both Handover and Summary Are Skipped (One-Click Flow):
If your pre-selected handover method is Pickup and a pickup fee applies:
- The Total Cost column will show the shipment cost excluding the pickup fee
- Hovering over the cost will show a tooltip explaining that a pickup fee will be added
- The Get Label button will also show a tooltip indicating the pickup fee
The pickup fee is added only when you generate the label. All other costs remain unchanged.
If Handover Is Shown (Summary Skipped):
If the Handover step is enabled:
- Initial costs shown will exclude pickup fees
- Once you select Pickup, the total cost updates immediately
- The Get Label button will reflect the full cost before label generation
In this case, pickup fees are displayed before you generate the label.
Is label generation always one click?
In most cases, yes. However:
- Insurance confirmation may still appear for uninsured shipments
- Users without a saved payment method will be prompted to add one
What happens if label generation fails?
If a label fails to generate, the shipment moves to Purchase Label status. From there, you can edit details and retry without restarting the entire flow.
Does this work for bulk shipments?
Yes. Bulk shipments follow the same Label Purchase Optimization rules as individual shipments.
Can I revert to the old flow?
Yes. You can re-enable the Handover and Summary steps at any time from the Label Purchase Optimization settings.
