Product Description

To ship successfully, it is essential to provide accurate and clear information on all of your shipping documents, especially when describing the type of goods that are being shipped.

A clear and accurate description gives customs authorities the information required for smooth clearance and helps avoid any unnecessary delays. Checking the import policies and restrictions of the country you plan on shipping to will instill confidence that your customer will receive their products hassle-free.

What is a product description?

It is a detailed description of the goods contained in a shipment. It explains what they are, what they are made of, and what they are used for. You will need to provide this description on documents such as the commercial invoice and in some cases, the airway bill. It should also be included in any other additional documents where required.

A clear and accurate description gives customs authorities the information required to access taxes and duties and helps avoid any unnecessary delays. It is also necessary to check if your goods are allowed to enter the country.

What information is required?

When describing the Product, consider the following questions:

  • What are they?
  • What are they made of?
  • What are they used for?

The description should be as specific as possible, if the package contains branded items, including the brand and model number along with the description.
