Easyship's Kickstarter Guide

Getting Started

You can download an Easyship-compatible order file from your Kickstarter account. When uploaded to Easyship, a draft shipment is created for each order, complete with shipping quotes for review. To generate accurate shipping quotes, Easyship requires additional product details not included in the Kickstarter export file. It’s recommended to fill in your Product Listings catalog before importing orders.

Adding and Updating your Product Listings

To ensure accurate shipping quotes, Easyship needs detailed product information.  Here are the item details required by Easyship to generate shipping quotes (see full list here):

• Item Description: A brief overview of the product.
• Item SKU: A unique identifier for each product.
• Item Weight: The weight of each item.
• Item Dimensions: Length, width, and height of the product.
• Item Category or HS Code: A classification code for your product.

If these required details are missing, Easyship will show incomplete shipment warnings, and shipping quotes won’t be available. By updating your Product Listings catalog beforehand, you avoid these issues and get accurate quotes right away. Once you import your Kickstarter orders file, Easyship will autofill any missing shipment details using the information in your catalog.

To avoid incomplete shipments and get accurate shipping quotes right away, it’s necessary to fill in your Product Listings catalog BEFORE importing your orders file to Easyship.

How does Easyship auto-fill missing shipment item details from Product Listings?

When uploading your Kickstarter file, Easyship matches the Reward Description and SKU from your file to those in your Product Listings, automatically filling any missing details. The description and SKU must match exactly—any differences in punctuation, symbols, or spacing will prevent the autofill from working. If that happens, edit your Product Listings to match Kickstarter, then re-import the orders.

Adding Product Listings

You can find your Product Listings catalog in your Easyship account by clicking on the Product Listings section in the left-hand navigation bar.

There are two ways to add your Kickstarter reward details:

Import from File (recommended)

1. Navigate to your Product Listings catalog in your Easyship account.

2. Click Add Products.

3. Select Others > Import from file.

4. Download the blank template, fill it in with your product details, and upload it.

Manual Input

1. Navigate to your Product Listings catalog in your Easyship account.

2. Click Add Products.

3. Select Others > Manual input.

4. Fill in the required inputs for a single product/reward and click Save.

5. Repeat the steps for each product/reward.

Product Listing Fields/Inputs

• SKU/ID (required)
  • If none, just fill in a simple number for each product (eg. 1, 2, 3, etc). Or copy over the Product Name/Description value as the SKU - as long as it is unique for each Product Listing.
  • Make sure the SKU exactly matches the SKU on Kickstarter  (including punctuation, symbols, and spaces).
    
    
• Product Name/Description (required)
  • This is your Reward Description.
  • Make sure it exactly matches the text in the Reward Description column from your Kickstarter orders file export (including punctuation, symbols, and spaces) - See here for more info.
    
    
• Item Length, Item Width, Item Height 
  • If you have your reward item dimensions, we strongly recommend adding them.
  • Some shipping carriers calculate rates based on the parcel dimensions (rather than weight), so adding dimensions will allow us to return a more complete and accurate list of shipping options & rates.
    
    
• Item Weight (required)
  • This is a required field to generate all shipping quotes. 
  • Please enter the precise weight of the reward item for the most accurate rates.
    
    
• Easyship Category/HS Code (required)
  • This is a required field to generate all shipping quotes. You must fill in one of the Easyship categories OR a valid HS Code.

Importing your Kickstarter Orders

You can find an Easyship-compatible order file export for download in your Kickstarter account. When you upload this Kickstarter file into the Easyship platform, a draft shipment will be created for each order with a list of shipping quotes for you to review before purchasing a shipping label.

NOTE: If you follow the below steps and find that, after import, the majority of shipments created have validation errors (missing details) blocking Easyship from providing the list of shipping courier quotes, then please double-check that your Product Listing catalog details are complete. 

Here are the steps for importing your Kickstarter orders to Easyship:

1. Export your orders file from the Kickstarter platform.

2. Confirm that your Product Listing details and SKU are updated & accurate for all of the rewards items included in the exported file from Kickstarter.

3. Go to the Create Shipments > Advanced section in the left-hand navigation bar.

4. Click Add Shipments > Import from file.

5. Click Upload. Select your Kickstarter orders file to be imported.

6. Wait a few minutes for your imported shipments to be created.

Uh oh! I imported my orders before updating my Product Listings. What now?

If you’ve accidentally imported your Kickstarter orders file BEFORE updating your Product Listings, you’ll notice that the uploaded shipments may have several missing info warnings and no shipping quotes available. This is because Easyship requires some additional product details in order to generate shipping quotes, which are not included in the Kickstarter orders file export.

Don’t worry! You don’t need to edit each shipment’s details one-by-one. Here’s the fastest way to add in the missing item details and get your shipping quotes:

1. Delete Shipments: 

Bulk select all the shipments you just imported on the Create Shipments page > Click on the More dropdown > Click Delete Selected.

2. Add or Update Product Listings:

Follow the steps here.

3. Import the Orders File again:

Follow these steps to import your orders file.

This time, you’ll notice the shipments created will have the shipment item details filled in, based on the information added to Product Listings previously.
